Homelessness is a problem pretty much everywhere. And it really feels like it’s only been getting worse and worse. While there isn’t a lot we as individuals can do to end homelessness, there are still plenty of ways we can help alleviate some of that stress .
For instance, Jennifer Garner is helping homeless individuals out with a Ziploc bag.
In a Reel posted to Instagram , the celebrity shows the kinds of things she puts in clear Ziploc bags that she keeps on hand in case she encounters homeless people.
The bags have everything from snacks, to everyday essentials.
In the caption to her post, she writes, “Random act of kindness: gather these essentials in a quart sized ziploc bag and keep them in your car to give away when you see someone in need.”
She lists the items she puts in her bags both in the Reel, and in the caption.
“A pair of thick socks. Kleenex. Hand wipes. Disposable toothbrushes. Chapstick. A couple of granola bars. I forgot this time, but like to add feminine hygiene products, too. Add $5, $10, $20 and a smile.”
It’s unsurprising that this video went viral.
The Reel already has over 1.6 million likes, showing just how much people love this idea.
It’s a definite act of kindness.
Homeless people don’t always have access to the kinds of essentials most of us take for granted. Even just a little bit extra can go a long way in so many cases.
And something can be said about the power of positivity.
At the end of the day, homeless people are people. Offering a helping hand or even just treating them with kindness and dignity is showing them the respect they deserve.
Of course, this won’t solve homelessness.
It would be nice if we could solve every problem with kind words and gestures. Sadly, that’s no the case.
But that doesn’t mean that our small actions won’t have a huge impact.
I don’t know about you, but I love this idea. It’s such a great, small way to support our local homeless populations. We may not be able to solve homelessness in a day, but at least we can show homeless people that they’re not alone.
