People are losing their minds over an insane optical illusion of six women sitting on sofa
This most recent viral brainteaser has me in awe. Optical illusions are not for the easily annoyed. An optical illusion of six women sitting on a sofa is driving people crazy on the internet. What’s the catch? Only five sets of legs are present.
No one has ever been able to definitively solve the illusion since the image was posted to Reddit more than eight years ago. Even if all six of the women are posing perfectly for the photo, it’s a complete mystery why one set of legs has vanished.
For years, people have been speculating on how this image functions, but no one has reached a consensus. Someone commented, “The second girl’s legs are behind the first girl’s legs,” in the thread for the original image. The girl seated second from the left is presumably concealing her legs behind the girl seated farthest to the left. Is it something I can see? No. However, that is the reason this is an unsolvable brainteaser.
Did somebody on Reddit solve the mystery?
It seems there are still some clever minds on Reddit, as someone might have finally solved the picture mystery once and for all. They tagged the image for reference and provided an explanation.
User ElMangosto wrote: “Left to right, #1, #2, #3, #4. Number 1 has her legs crossed, and no tear in the knee. Number 2 has only one leg visible, the tear is in her knee. Those legs are blending together. (Follow that tear down, there’s a split where there’s a sock on the right and not on the left. Number 2 has a tear in her knee and a visible white sock) Numbers 2 and 3 are leaning way over. It’s easier to visualize if you picture #3 with her hand on the seat behind #4’s back to hold herself up.”
The explanation, supported by the diagram, actually makes a lot of sense, so maybe we can finally resolve this mystery once and for all.
